Upon arrival at camp on Saturday, you will be booked into your cottage to get settled in and rested after your long drive. The cottages are along the fabulous French River. You may then purchase your hunting license.
An orientation will be made at this time detailing the area where you will be hunting and describing my baiting and hunting techniques. You will have the opportunity to fine-tune your bows, firearms and equipment, and then gather your gear for a full week of hunting enjoyment. Your six days of hunting run Sunday through Friday.
We have a
few changes to announce for the upcoming 2008 fall bear-hunting season. Our 2008
Fall Black Bear hunt will start on August 16th and run through
September 20th, 2008. 5 full weeks of heart stopping bear
action. During the last week of August we are offering a Back To School
package. A chance for Dad and/or Mom to get some quality time with our
junior hunters and next Wildlife Stewarts, unwinding and relaxing before the
hectic start of the school year. Although
FRBO has operated as an exclusively bow
hunting only facility for over 21 years, we are pleased to announce the opening
of a separate Bear

100% 75% The 2007 fall season was very successful, surpassing many of
FRBO’s previous records. Bow hunters
had 100% shot opportunity, achieving an amazing 75% harvest
rate. Bears in camp ran from 175 lbs up to 450lbs. The average weight of the
harvested animals was 250 + lbs. Our FRBO record was established in the
fall of 2006 with one awesome bruin, the “Shadow Stocker” coming
in at 8’5” squared! His skull measured a whopping 20”. Nose to
tail 8’7”, paw-to-paw 8’3”, belly girth 5’8”!!! Wow, this is one World
Class Black Bear. We have determined that due to 22 years of guiding
only bow hunters, lack of hunting pressure, and the cancellation of the spring
hunt that the average weight in our area has greatly exceeded the North American
norm of 180 Ibs. The American black bear is one of
Ontario's most sought after big game species. Hunters across the United
States and Canada have long recognized the fact that bear hunting adds
adventure far beyond that offered by whitetail, mule deer and moose. Facing
a big ole black bear at extremely close range is a true test of a hunter’s
mettle. Ontario, especially the French River
area of mid-northern Ontario has one of the largest concentrations of bear
available. The French River lies amidst the beautiful pre-Cambrian shield
country of Canada, from vast rocky gorges to the wildest stretches of boreal and
deciduous forests running untamed for miles. This land of over 400,000 lakes,
rivers and streams plus the enumerable beaver floods, swamps and vast wilderness
tracts, offers one of the best black bear habitats available.CHANGES TO OUR 2008
